A more defined jawline and smoother neck in Concord, CA

If you would like to reduce loose skin on your neck but are happy with the appearance of your face, a full facelift may not be necessary to achieve the improvement you want. Instead, you might be a better candidate for a procedure called a neck lift. This surgery can refresh an area that is often overlooked and can give your appearance the boost you are looking for.

We serve many different communities throughout the Bay Area including San Ramon, Danville, Walnut Creek, and Concord. Our neck lift surgery, performed by Dr. Eric Mariotti, can correct excess neck skin without a full facelift.

At MBody, we’ve helped many women in the community look refreshed by creating a more defined jawline and smoother neck through a neck lift. If you’re looking for a subtle yet noticeable enhancement, this surgery may be the right fit for you.

What Is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the neck and jawline. During this surgery, we tighten the underlying muscles and remove or reposition loose skin. We use techniques to restore a more youthful neck profile while keeping the overall results natural. At MBody, every neck lift procedure that we perform is unique because we listen to the concerns of our patients as we plan the surgery.

Why a Neck Lift?

A neck lift can address sagging jowls and a moderate amount of excess skin or fat under the chin. A neck lift procedure uses shorter incisions than a full facelift.

If there is a great amount of loose skin under the jaw (sometimes called a “turkey wattle”) or if you are unhappy with sagging skin on your face, a full facelift may be the best option for you.

Isolated areas of fat can also be removed through liposuction. Dr. Mariotti will take the time during your initial consultation to listen to your concerns and can help you determine which procedure is right for you.

“My experience with Dr. Mariotti was incredible, and loving the results!! The inner confidence it brought me was amazing. His staff with my surgery and follow-ups are professional and beyond friendly and knowledgeable. As a nurse, I felt so safe and worry free under his care. Absolutely recommend him for any cosmetic/medical needs. :)”

Preparation

Before your neck lift, we want to make sure your body is in the best possible condition for surgery and healing. Preparing well can help reduce stress, minimize risks, and support a smooth recovery. During your consultation, we will go over everything in detail, but here are some general guidelines to help you get started and experience your full neck lift benefits.

How to prepare for your neck lift:

  • Stop smoking at least four weeks before surgery to help with healing and reduce the risk of complications.
  • Avoid taking blood thinners, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory medications for two weeks unless otherwise directed.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery.
  • Set up a comfortable recovery space at home with extra pillows, easy-to-reach items, and prepared meals.
  • Stay hydrated and eat a balanced diet to support your immune system and recovery process.
  • Fill any prescriptions in advance so you have everything ready when you return home.
  • Let us know about any supplements or medications you take so we can advise you on what to stop or continue.

Procedure

This procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia. Dr. Mariotti can remove sagging or redundant neck skin using several different methods.

He may make incisions behind the ear or under the chin. In some instances, he will tighten the tissues under the chin by placing a suture across the neck crease to help tighten and elevate the muscle there.

Loose skin can also be tightened by pulling the skin up and back behind the ear, where it can then be removed. External Ultrasound Assist technology is often used to soften and liquefy the fat. This reduces bruising and swelling and can also tighten the skin.

Recovery

After surgery, you will go home with your chin and neck wrapped in dressings or in an elastic neck sling, which must be worn constantly for about 7 days. Any discomfort will be minimal and easily controlled with oral medication.

Sutures will be removed 5 to 7 days after the procedure. Bruising and swelling can be covered with make-up and will decrease in 7 to 10 days. You will feel ready to return to work and social interaction after about a week, but please keep in mind that the final result will continue to emerge over the course of several months.

Is a Neck Lift Right for Me?

You may be a good candidate for a neck lift if:

  • You do not smoke or are willing to avoid smoking before and after surgery
  • You are in good general health and have realistic expectations
  • You are at or near your ideal weight and able to maintain it
  • You want to improve your neck without changing other areas of your face

This procedure is often ideal for individuals in their 40s to 70s, especially if other areas of the face still retain firmness or have been treated separately.

FAQS

How much does a neck lift cost?

The cost of a neck lift depends on many factors. There is your surgeon’s fee and additional costs related to anesthesia, operating room fees, medical costs and others. If the cost of a neck lift is an obstacle for you, don’t hesitate to discuss financing options during your consultation to help make your procedure as affordable as possible.

How do I choose the right neck lift plastic surgeon near me?

Choose a Board-certified plastic surgeon near you who has experience performing neck lifts and other facial plastic surgeries. View before and after photos of previous neck lift results that this particular plastic surgeon has achieved.

Ask around to friends and family for recommendations of reputable plastic surgeons in your area, and use online reviews to help you narrow down your search.

Is a neck lift the best procedure for me?

A neck lift could be an appropriate solution for you if your primary cosmetic concerns are your under-chin and neck areas. Some of the most common concerns that a neck lift can address include a “turkey neck” appearance under the chin and excess fat under the chin.

If you are also concerned with sagging skin or jowls, and lines and wrinkles in your mid-face area, a combination facelift and neck lift may be the best option for you.

Is a neck lift painful?

You shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort during your neck lift, as this procedure is performed under general anesthesia. After getting a neck lift, expect to experience tenderness, swelling, and bruising as your body begins to heal. These symptoms are typically easy to manage with the use of prescription or over-the-counter pain medication and properly applied ice packs.

How long does it take to recover from a neck lift?

Most people are able to return to work and other daily activities within one week after getting a neck lift. However, you will still need to limit physical activity for several more weeks, and your results will continue to develop over the next weeks and months. Makeup can be used around the one-week mark to cover up any swelling or bruising as you begin to resume your normal routine.

How soon will I see my neck lift results?

You should begin to see the results of your neck lift emerge as swelling and bruising begin to diminish, which gradually occurs in the weeks after your procedure.

It can take 3 to 6 months for all swelling to dissipate and for your final results to reveal themselves. Suture lines can take up to 18 months to fully mature.

How long does a neck lift last?

The results of a neck lift can last around 8 to 15 years, depending on a variety of factors such as the age at which you had a neck lift, your skin elasticity, and your lifestyle habits.

Wearing sunscreen on a daily basis, avoiding deliberate tanning, eating a healthy diet, and staying hydrated will help to keep your skin healthy and prolong your neck lift results.

Is liposuction included in a neck lift?

Liposuction is often part of a neck lift when there is excess fat under the chin or along the jawline. If we see that removing fat will help create a smoother result, we will include it during surgery. We will go over your goals and determine whether fat removal should be part of your treatment plan.
